I was in elementary school and we were going to hold a spaghetti supper as a fundraiser, so we wrote a letter to Newman's Own asking for a donation. The company sent us many, many jars of pasta sauce and this made me so happy. Successfully asking for a donation was a huge accomplishment for a group of little kids--and as an adult I now recognize it can be a great accomplishment for adults, too!--and I think that memory has fueled my willingness to ask ever since.
(An article from the Non-Profit Times about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raising money from school children sparked my memory of that childhood donation.)
